About this video Over deze video
What happens when you bring an all-star roster of musicians into one of the most legendary recording studios in Los Angeles to score a contemporary dance ballet?
In this episode of In The Cut, we take you to Chaplin Studios in Los Angeles—the historic lot where Charlie Chaplin filmed, Daft Punk recorded, and Dr. Dre laid down classics. We are sitting in on day two of a massive writer's workshop led by producer and writer Matt Tierney. The team is building out the musical score for "God's Man," a contemporary dance ballet choreographed by Jacob Jonas that translates 20 years of Matt's art practice into movement.
Watch this massive collaborative ensemble—featuring Jidenna, D'Angelo Lacy, Ben Shirken, Greg Martin, Sam Pressman, Elpenthe, Roman GianArthur, Kaitlyn Daley, Kieran Makepeace, Evan Windom, and engineer Arjun Rao—blend analog and digital worlds. They break down a workflow that bounces from live synths, to Logic, to Suno, and back to live musicians—creating what they call an amalgamation of the "ghost in the machine."
From tracking live vocals and adding piano to dropping a melody into Suno to instantly generate a drum kit, the crew explains how the technology removes friction from the creative process to help "1000x" their creativity.
