What happens when an artist known for J-Pop steps into the studio to craft a completely new alternative rock sound?
In this episode of In The Cut, we sit down with Japanese artist Genki Iwahashi, who has been working in entertainment since he was 14 years old. Looking to evolve past his idol roots and show a side of his artistry that people haven't seen yet, Genki hits the studio to jam with a live band featuring producer Ryosuke Kihara, keyboardist Yasuhiro Obata, and bassist Ippei Maeda.
Watch as the band records a killer 16-bar live session, then feeds that progression directly into Suno's Cover feature. Using prompts like "rock, 2000, alternative rock, california" and later exploring "neo-soul" and "mellow synth," the team rapidly builds out an entirely new sonic landscape.
