Gabi Leibowitz, who leads the Impact Program at ElevenLabs, introduces the company's initiative to provide free voice cloning technology to individuals who have permanently lost their voice due to conditions like ALS, head and neck cancer, stroke, and multiple sclerosis. She shares that ElevenLabs has committed to giving back one million free voices, has supported over 450 nonprofits, and empowered over 7,000 free voice clones to date.
The emotional highlight is a live performance by Patrick Darling, a musician diagnosed with motor neuron disease (ALS) at age 29 who lost his ability to sing and play instruments. Using an ElevenLabs singing voice clone, built from low-quality phone recordings of pub gigs and kitchen sessions, Patrick performs an original song live on stage for the first time, accompanied by his former bandmates Nick Cocking and Hari Ma. It marks the first time an individual with ALS has performed a live song using a personalized AI singing voice clone, and the reaction from his bandmates, hearing Patrick's voice again after two years, is genuinely moving.
